Ash Flanders is a comedy writer from sunny Melbourne. In 2006 he and Declan Greene formed theatre company Sisters Grimm and together they have written shows such as Mommie & the Minister (Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe), Cellblock Booty (Adelaide Fringe), Summertime in the Garden of Eden (Theatre Works, Griffin Theatre), Little Mercy (STC), The Sovereign Wife (MTC), and Calpurnia Descending (Malthouse/STC) nominated for a Helpmann Award: Best Play 2015. Together they have also written the much smaller and sillier Faerie Tales, When Lorraine Stops Falling, The Rimming Club and even a radio serial for SYN 94.9 entitled The Shortwave Kidz.
Since 2010, Ash has been invited to create short works for the Emerging Writers’ Festival. These have included If You Want Blood (you’ve got it) : a response to AC/DC that centered around male circumcision, I will. Always : a gruesome work of zombie Whitney Houston slash-fiction, and the popular Divine Decadence of Cheesecake : an erotic fan fiction regarding The Golden Girls. This last work was later made into a short film that has since played Frameline, Out On Film, LLFF Canada and other international film festivals. He hopes it tours until everyone fully understands the octogenarian love that dare not speak its name. Ash also created the one-man shows Negative Energy Inc. which enjoyed a sell-out season as part of Midsumma Festival 2012 and Special Victim, winner of the Green Room Award for Writing in 2015.
