|David Berthold is one of Australia’s most prominent theatre directors. David is currently the Artistic Director for Brisbane Festival. Prior to this he was Artistic Director and CEO of La Boite Theatre Company in Brisbane (2008-2014), he was Artistic Director of Griffin Theatre Company (2003-2006), transforming it into Australia’s leading new writing theatre; Artistic Director of the Australian Theatre for Young People (1999-2003), building the company into Australia’s flagship theatre for young people; Associate Director of Sydney Theatre Company (1994-99); and Artistic Associate of Queensland Theatre Company (1991-94). In 2007, he was Festival Director of World Interplay, the world’s largest gathering of young playwrights.
David’s recent productions include Rolling Thunder Vietnam; Much Ado About Nothing for NIDA; Tommy Murphy’s multi-award winning adaptation of Timothy Conigrave’s memoir Holding the Man, Murphy’s Saturn’s Return for Sydney Theatre Company (2008), the premiere of Louis Nowra’s Boyce Trilogy for Griffin Theatre Company, Debra Oswald’s The Peach Season for Griffin, and Neil LaBute’s The Shape of Things for the 2008 NIDA graduating year.
