Peter Wilson has changed the face of puppetry in Australia over the past 40 years.
His puppetry career began in 1975, co-founding Handspan Theatre in Melbourne 1977. The company had many international successes, including Secrets, Four Little Girls, Cho Cho San and Smalls.
Peter has worked extensively with Nigel Triffitt on productions such as The Fall of Singapore, Momma’s Little Horror Show and Moby Dick.
He was the Artistic Director for Company Skylark in 1993. Works included Wake Baby, Twinkle Twinkle Little Fish, Inside Dry Water, Charlotte’s Web and The Hobbit.
Peter directed Nature for the Sydney Olympic Opening Ceremony (2001), was the Associate Director and Puppeteer for the widely acclaimed The Theft of Sita (2001), and Director of the National Puppetry and Animatronics Summit in Melbourne (2002).
In 2004 Peter wrote The Space Between in association with Geoffrey Milne, detailing the development of the art of puppetry and visual theatre in Australia. Peter also developed the Post Graduate Diploma/Masters in Puppetry course for the Victorian College of the Arts (2004).

Theatre works include: A World of Paper and Moon Play in Japan – Theatre Kazenoko and Unrinko Gekidan (2003), The Red Tree (2004), The Dragon Child for China Children’s Art Theatre, Beijing (2008), Bali Agung – Bali Safari and Marine Park (2010), Consultant Puppetry Director on How to Train Your Dragon – Arena Spectacular – Global Creatures & DreamWorks Animation (2012), The Flying Orchestra – Out of the Box- QPAC (2012), King Kong – Global Creatures (2013), Storm Boy – Sydney Theatre Company and Barking Gecko Theatre Company (2013), Cho Cho San – National Theatre China, Playking Productions and The Melbourne Arts Centre (2013).
